    Belle Chasse Primary School teachers literally put lipstick on a pig when they had to kiss 'Hammy Davis Jr.,' a 5-month-old pig from Zoo 2U of Folsom on Oct. 31 in Belle Chasse. The teachers told their students that they would kiss a pig if the students helped raise money to rebuild a playground. The students raised $2,015 in three weeks.

    November is National Adoption Month, and so this week's column is devoted to the adoption program Catholic Charities operates to help moms-to-be make plans for their babies.

    Students at the Waggaman Alternative School are being given a second chance to succeed. Through a partnership with the Jefferson Performing Arts Society's Cultural Crossroads program, Waggaman Alternative School students will be exposed to an arts-enriched curriculum that will directly and indirectly teach them the skills they'll need to succeed in school and in life.

    Concert series winding down
    The Gretna Fall Concert Series is still going on and it's not too late to catch a concert or two. Friday night will feature Rockin' Dopsie Jr., and the last concert of the series, Nov. 14, will feature The Vettes. The concerts are free and located on the levee near the Gretna Ferry Landing.
